The Pinchot Spiral - Missoula MT - 2006

This Pinchot Spiral was installed in Caras Park in Missoula MT July 20th, 2006. It was supported by the Missoula Museum of the Arts. The Pinchot Spiral is a two part installation. A 30 foot tall soft sculpture of a pencil leaning against the Higgins St. bridge, and an 8 hour performance where I drew a spiral with a pencil.

THE PENCIL: Visually connecting to the act of drawing the large pencil is a gentle reminder that our specific human scale of space and time is only one among many. The pencil points to the size of the mountains and the forests around Missoula, and reminds us of their silent presence in the midst of public debates on their nature, purpose, and use.
